About
We are an architecture and interior design practice based in South East London.
We know a lot about houses and flats, so most of our work is helping people improve their homes. Sometimes we work with developers who are making new homes. We have also worked on places of worship and community buildings. Occasionally, we get asked to help fix mistakes that others have made.
We try and keep a mixture of small and large projects. We think both are important. We love to deal with spatial or technical problems that are difficult to solve.
If you have a project you would like to discuss, send Nicholas an email at nj@nicholasjamieson.com. We are always happy to answer questions, and to talk through the basics of costs, timing, planning permission, and getting things built.
People
Nicholas Jamieson
Nicholas has spent the last 20 years working mainly on residential projects, including numerous refurbishments, extensions, and loft conversions for private individuals – and the creation of flats for institutions and developers.
Coming to architecture from an engineering background he has always kept an interest in technical matters. His first jobs included being project architect for a fire testing facility for the Building Research Establishment, for an emergency control room for London Ambulance Service, for the repair and cleaning of stonework at the Central Criminal Court in Old Bailey, and for bomb damage repairs to an Isle of Dogs textile warehouse. Later, as a project director, he led the technical design of a swimming pool built below a house in Hampstead, pioneering a method of domestic basement construction before such projects became common. He has worked on places of worship, healthcare buildings, and a library.
He is the author of two books on inspecting building works, and is currently writing a book on roof construction.
He studied at the Polytechnic of the South Bank, then at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, where he graduated with Distinction.
When not doing things related to work and family he enjoys reading, running and, occasionally, a few days’ hillwalking.
Chisato Haruyama
Chisato studied architecture in Japan, graduating as a Bachelor of Engineering. She then moved to London, to study interior and spatial design at Chelsea College of Art and Design, graduating as a Master of Arts.
She has worked at several architectural practices, gaining experience on a wide variety of residential projects at different scales. She has developed specialist expertise in interior planning, lighting design, and in sourcing beautiful furniture, finishes and fittings.
Outside the architectural world, she enjoys travelling, and visiting museums, galleries and theatres.
Victoria Platt
Victoria is an architect by training who has specialised in the management side of practice. Victoria plays an essential role in the office, making sure everything runs smoothly, so Nicholas and Chisato can concentrate on work for their clients.
